The article deals with natural and anthropogenic factors that determine the hydrological regime of the Seversky Donets River and its water quality. The causes of fluctuations in river flows over the past 50 years are revealed. Particular attention is paid to changes in water quality in the face of declining water content of the river and increasing anthropogenic factor, as manifested both in the river valley and in the catchment area.
