According to the State Water Resources Committee of Ukraine, there are 2181 thousand ha of irrigated land and 3307 thousand ha of drained land in the country. As of 1990, 2.3 Mha were irrigated. After the collapse of USSR, the irrigated area in use has been reduced critically and only about 600 thousand ha were irrigated in 2010.
