The article presents the results of analysis of the causes and peculiarities of frequently recurring droughts in Orenburzhye of late years. It has been found that the main reasons are associated with climate changes in the region, namely with its getting warmer, with sharp differences of average daily temperature during the vegetation period up to 20-25° C, which creates stressful conditions for farm crops growth and development. The main factors having negative impact on crop yields are air temperatures in June and July, which can negate even sufficient spring moisture reserves in soil and the deficient rainfalls. The combination of these factors is the basis of soil and air drought. Since 2009, the Orenburg region has been exposed to different types of drought, but the greatest damage to crops has been caused by the resistant droughts in 2010 and 2012. It is shown that the human factor can sufficiently ease the drought impact on farm crops, except when it is stable. The most effective means in the fight against stable aridness can be winter crops and such early and late spring cereals as barley and millet, which belong to high yielding, drought-resistance and insurance crops.
