Circumstances of flood formation on big rivers of the Amur Basin are considered. Flood wave characteristics and movement specifics during the catastrophic flooding of the Amur River in August and September 2013 are described. This flooding was caused by a rare combination of activity in the main runoff formation areas. Impacts of anthropogenic factors on the height and duration of floods are assessed and possible effects of river flooding on the Amur hydrological regime are analyzed. Effective flood protection measures for areas with high risks of flooding are discussed.
