The article discusses problems of rational use of water resources as a factor of sustainable socio-economic development of the region, which are considered to be the main organizational measures designed to create real opportunities and to stimulate interest among water consumers in a more economical and efficient use of water resources. Regional features of water status and problems of water recourses use in various sectors of the economy of the Republic have been identified; issues of territorial and annual distribution of water resources, alongside with deterioration of water quality in water bodies of the country, indicators of water consumption and wastewater proportions in the industry of the region, the growth of economic damage caused by pollution of water bodies have been explored. Implementation of water management in the new economic environment is done by improving the economic mechanism, which is a system of methods, tools, actions for the operation of market regulators of water use.
