The Article describes the provisions of the UN Convention on the Law of the on-Navigational Uses of International Watercourses, shows its significance as a codifying instrument for international regulation of water relationships. The survey is presented within the context of understanding and interpretation of recognized principles of international water law, like equitable and reasonable utilization, obligation not to cause significant damage. The article also reflects the differing and uncompromising positions of certain states as to the approaches and legal mechanisms employed in the Convention for regulating the economic uses of shares water resources.
