Alexander Golodnitsky, the Director of State Enterprise "Delta-pilot" reported about the construction of a levee during a presentation of the project in Vilkovo. According to him, the dike protects the sea access duct to the deep-water fairway «Danube - Black Sea".

"The veneer dam has finished completely, the contractor has already removed all the techniques and has passed area in the Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve, which was used as a temporary road" – the Director of State Enterprise "Delta-pilot" said.
The length of the dam is 2, 73 km, height - up to 2, 2 meters above sea level. On the tip dam depth is over 7 meters and the width at this location - about 100 meters along the bottom. Cost of works estimated at 200 million USD, contractors were two domestic companies. Dams consist of granite stones mined in Nikolayevskaya and Zaporojskaya oblasts. This natural material is selected in order not to disturb the ecosystem of the region.

According to the head "Delta-pilot", the dam will have tangible economic benefits.
"It will protect the channel from the pumps during the storm and minimize the amount of dredging. If before we had to spend on such work about 60 million USD a year, but now this amount is reduced by about a third ", - stressed Alexander Golodnitsky.
In addition, he said, the dam will provide a secure login to a channel from the sea, making "Danube - Black Sea" even more attractive to shipping.
