Decree of the Russian government in 2009, was approved by the Water Strategy of the Russian Federation and its implementation plan for the period until 2020. The strategy will:

     - Increase the share of water resources, water quality, which is assessed as "value added" or "slightly polluted", and 40 percent;

     - Reduce the environmental impact on the environment in 2,5 times. Currently, this indicator stands at 89 per cent by 2020 figure should reach 36 percent;

     - Reduce the amount of pollutants discharged into surface water bodies from 11 million tonnes to 6.6 million tons.
