Ukrainian water strategy is a platform for planning and implementing measures aimed at efficient use, reproduction and protection of water resources from pollution. The main strategic directions to achieve the above objectives should be as follows:

• integrated water resources management based on basin approach and water balances that are optimal for economic sectors and administrative territories;
• intensification of water exchange in reservoirs through annual replacement of water in the amount, which is not less than 30% of useful capacity;
• reduction of industrial needs to 40% of water withdrawal and maximum possible treatment of return water.
