According to the Russian Ministry of Natural Resources, 29,300 reservoirs were built in Russia, among which 1,937 reservoirs have the capacity from 1 to 10 Mm3 and 363 reservoirs hold more than 10 Mm3.  Based on the Russian Federation’s Water Code (page 34), the reservoirs are water bodies under the public ownership. Large multipurpose reservoirs are operated by the Ministry of Natural Resources, while single purpose small reservoirs are under responsibility of organizations that operate retaining structures.
