The intensive development of irrigated agriculture since the mid XX century in the Fergana Valley, one of the most secured oases in Central Asia, has led to a number of geo-ecological problems, particularly to water scarcity. 

The aim of this work was to assess water distribution in this region and identify causes of water scarcity. 

The research addressed the development and application of a water distribution model. It was necessary to develop a geo-information system for the Fergana Valley in ArcGIS environment, including information layers of land use, irrigation system location and layout, irrigation canal command zones and calculate amounts of water delivered and used. 

Based on the above information, the model was developed to reflect water distribution. Finally, a few scheme maps of the Fergana Valley (at a scale 1:400 000) were produced: “Water distribution” for 4 scenarios (wet and dry years, recommended and actual irrigation norms); “Major crops grown in the Fergana Valley”, and “Irrigation canal command zones with division into fields”.
