There is a beautiful place in the vicinity of Kazan that has long attracted tourists and citizens of Kazan - Blue Lake, representing the cascade of three interconnected bodies of water: The Great Abyss, Small Abyss and Blue Lake itself. Lake got its name for the special unique aquamarine color of the water due to its high transparency and sulfate.

The lakes are well known and have attracted attention in the early XIX century. The unique composition and medicinal properties of lake water studied and described by a famous scientist and physician Karl Fuchs. For a long time, maintaining cleanliness of the lakes studied Panayev merchant, who was holding the lake water mill.

From 1994 on the initiative of scientists of the Kazan University, specialists from the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources of the Republic of Tatarstan, suburban forestry, this water body became a member of the State natural reserve of regional importance of integrated profile "Blue Lake", which consists of forest and lakes of karst system, which occupies the territory of 1200 hectares .

Because of low water temperature throughout the year living creatures in the lake a bit, but here you can find a very rare species listed in Red Data Book of Tajikistan, - water scorpion and dairy planarians. At the bottom of the lake water grows pine.

Unfortunately, due to the large number of vacationers contamination severely affected the nature reserve, and without urgent action the city and the republic may lose blue lakes, this unique natural site.

To discuss the challenges and priority actions to save the Blue Lakes are invited leading scientists of the Kazan Federal University, Institute of Ecology and subsoil of the Academy of Sciences of Tatarstan, Kazan State University of Culture and the Arts, the leading specialists of the Ministry of Forestry of the Republic of Tatarstan. Performances will be accompanied by a display of rare archival photographs and documents.
